Where's
Bonaire?
Bonaire
is an island in the Netherlands Antilles. Bonaire,
Aruba and Curacao, are often called the "ABC" islands.
These islands are off the coast of South America.
Bonaire is well known as a diving and vacation
paradise. Come visit and stay at Sand Dollar
Condominium Resort. The island is full of surprises.
How
Do I Get Here?
There are several airlines that serve Bonaire. For the most current
information please call your travel agent our reservations office or
visit Additional the InfoBonaire
Airline page.
Options for North American Travelers:
- American Eagle via San Juan, Puerto Rico operates several days a week
- Delta Airlines direct from Atlanta (Saturday only) and JFK New York (Saturdays as of Dec 20, 2008.)
- Continental Airlines non-stop between Newark and Bonaire and between Houston and Bonaire. Both are overnight flights departing on Saturday's and arriving on Bonaire early Sunday morning.
- American Airlines flies direct to Curacao from Miami, and Delta direct to Curacao from Atlanta on Sunday's. Passengers then may use Dutch Antilles Express to connect from Curaçao to Bonaire. Flying time is approximately 15-30 minutes.
- Divi Divi flies between Bonaire and Curacao several times a day.
- Insel Air flies between Curaçao and Bonaire on a daily basis.
- Other options exist for the major U.S. and South American carriers that fly into Aruba. Travelers can then take Dutch Antilles Express or Tiara Air from there to Bonaire.
Options for European Travelers
- Arkefly flies twice-weekly from Amsterdam via Curacao to Bonaire (high season only.).

KLM flies direct from Amsterdam to Bonaire several times each week on a connecting flight to Quito, Ecuador
Options for South American Travelers
- From Ecuador, the same KLM flight returns to Bonaire with non-stop flights.
- From Venezuela, Transaven flies from Caracas or Valencia to Bonaire.
- From Brazil, Varig and Avianca fly from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to Aruba, which connect with Dutch Antilles Express. Avianca also flies from Bogota to Curacao, from which connections to Bonaire can be made.
- From Colombia, Avianca has flights from Bogota to Aruba, which connect with Dutch Antilles Express.
Q: Where is the resort located on Bonaire?
A: North of Kralendijk on the water. Approximately 10 minutes from the airport
and downtown shopping.

many rooms does Sand Dollar have?
Can Sand Dollar accommodate groups?
A: We have 60 separate condos from studio to three bedroom units. Groups, large
and small, can easily be accommodated in a variety of units.

What is the weather like on Bonaire?
A: Dry, temperate climate with an average
temperature of 83F/29C year round.

What kind of clothes do I need?
A: Casual resort attire is appropriate.
No wet clothing in restaurants and no
beach wear downtown please.

What languages are spoken on Bonaire? Will
I be able to get by in English?
A: Although Dutch and Papiamento are
the official languages of Bonaire; both
English and Spanish are widely spoken.

Q: What
credit cards does Sand Dollar accept?
A: Visa/MasterCard, American Express,
Discover and Diners are accepted at Sand
Dollar. Visa/MasterCard are the most
widely accepted cards on the island.
Q: Do
I have an ocean view from my room?
A: All Sand Dollar apartments front on
the Caribbean Sea and have ocean views. Depending
on the location of your apartment, you could also have a view of the
sunset or a view of Klein Bonaire. There
are sun decks at the water's edge with
lounge chairs for comfortable sunning
or sunset viewing.
Q. How
far is it to the dive shop?
A: Bonaire Dive and Adventure is located
on the south end of the property, just
a stroll away from any of the condominiums.
For your convenience, you can store your
gear at the dive shop.
Q. If I get hungry and don't want to go far to eat, where
can I go?
Q:
Whom do I see if I want to shore dive?
A: Bonaire Dive and Adventure will give you
all the necessary information you need to
shore dive. Bari Reef directly in from
of the property has the distinction of being
rated the #1 reef in the Caribbean - so we
know you will want to make several dives
there. But for shore diving the 50+ sites
off property, you will need transportation
to the dive sites. We'll be happy to help
you arrange for the rental of a double cabin
pick up truck or other vehicles from local
car rentals.
Q:
We are snorkelers. Is there good snorkeling
at Sand Dollar?
A: Access to snorkeling at Sand Dollar is
easy from three locations on the property.
There is an abundance of species including
Blue Tangs, Parrotfish, Mahogany Snappers,
butterfly fish, many kinds of Damselfish,
Puddingwife, grunts, Chromis (blue and brown),
Sergeant Majors, Creole fish, and a school
of 200+ Horse-eye Jacks right in front of
the condominium. Bonaire Dive & Adventure
offers guided snorkeling trips, dive with
a naturalist and guided birding and nature
tours.
Q:
I hear Bonaire has wonderful wind surfing. How
far is the wind surfing from Sand Dollar?
A: You will need to rent a car and drive
to the southern part of the island where
there is a large windsurfing facility at
Lac Bay. This is approximately a 15-minute
drive.
Q: Does
Sand Dollar offer baby-sitting services?
What is offered for Kids & Families?
A: With 48 hours advanced notice, the
Sand
Penny is offered free of charge to keep your children
ages 3-6 excited about being on Bonaire through craft workshops, while you are enjoying diving or other activities.
Older
children, ages 6-12 can make advanced reservations
to participate in a half day discovery based
program offered by Bonaire Dive & Adventure called
Ocean's Classroom. The Sand Penny Club runs Monday to Friday from 8:15 am through noon and
1:00 pm through 4:30 pm. except on Holidays. Babysitting can generally be arranged by the
office with outside sitters with at least 48 hour notice for $8.00 an hour during the day and $10.00 an
hour evenings 12:00 midnight - 8:00 a.m. For more information, visit the

Are
there activities for my teen?
A: Jong Bonaire is a non-profit after school
youth center for the teens on this Caribbean
island. They come to the center for sports
and games, to work on computers and do their
homework. The teen center is operated by
a non-profit foundation established in Bonaire
in 1959. www.jongbonaire.org
Q: Do
I have to bring kitchen supplies with me?
A: No. The rooms are fully equipped with
kitchen supplies (pots, pans, utensils, dishes).
Blenders, dishwashers and dish soap, coffee
makers, toasters and microwaves are supplied
in each unit.
Q.
If there are no phones in the rooms, where
do I go to make a call?
A: Local calls can
be made from free from the phones both inside and outside the Front
Office. The
front office also sells Phone cards for 10 Nafl or 25 Nafl (guilders)
which enable you to place International calls for as low as .40 Nafl
(US $ 0.30) per minute from any phone. Cell
phones are now available as well at the
Front Office, with phone usage cards available for
purchase. There
is also a telephone located just outside
the Sand Dollars Front Office available 24
hours using credit cards, calling cards or
collect calling.
Q. Where can I get Internet access?
A: Sand Dollar does not offer Internet access, however wireless
internet is available with your laptop 24 hours a day at
Chat 'n'
Browse, located in the Sand Dollar Mini-Mall next to Lover's Ice
Cream. You can also access the internet via computers inside
the center, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM until
8:00 PM, and Saturday, Sunday and all holidays from 8:30 AM until
6:00 PM. Rates for use on your laptop of theirs is $3.00 for 15
minutes, $5.00 for 30 minutes, or $8.00 for one hour.
Q: Is there somewhere I can keep my valuables?
A: Every room at Sand Dollar has a
safe large enough to accommodate most laptops,
as well as valuables such as money and
jewelry. There is no charge for this service,
but you will need to put down a deposit for
the key.
Q: I
see people in uniform late at night walking
around the premises. Who are they?
A: For your peace of mind, Sand Dollar
has private security on duty from 6:00
pm to 7:00 am.
Q:
Are ATMs available nearby?
A: Yes, Maduro Bank is located on the
property and their ATM is available 24
hours a day. You can withdraw money in
dollars or florins. US dollars are widely
accepted.
Q: Where
can I find a grocery store?
A: Sand Dollar Grocery, a convenience store,
is located in the shopping center next to
the bank. A larger supermarket, Cultimara,
is located downtown, and a second called Warehouse Bonaire close to
town on the road to the airport. There are also a number of other
smaller grocery stores available. The resort staff will be happy to
provide directions when you arrive.
Q: How does Sand Dollar handle my email and
personal information?
A: We respect your privacy, and will manage your information with the utmost
care and concern for our customers. Our complete
privacy

potential clients, and vigorously protect private information.
Q:
Where can I buy liquor and beer?
A: There is an excellent wine and liquor store almost directly
across the street from Sand Dollar at the newly opened Bonairemart. There is
also an Amstel
distributor (beer and liquor) about half
a mile away on Kaya Amsterdam, and most grocert stores also sell
alcohol, Warehouse Bonaire having the best selection. The resort staff will be
happy to provide directions when you arrive.
